Steve Wade is a shareholder of the firm of Skelton, Taintor & Abbott, located in Auburn, Maine. Steve concentrates his practice in the areas of personal injury, product liability, and medical malpractice.

Steve has devoted his 30-year career to representing individuals who have been injured as a result of the negligence of others. He has represented hundreds of individuals, each of whom has experienced a traumatic event that has resulted in their injury or in the death of a loved one.

Steve is one of Maine’s top trial lawyers and an invited member of some of the most prestigious trial lawyer organizations in the world:

  • The International Society of Barristers, an honor society of trial lawyers chosen by their peers on the basis of excellence and integrity in advocacy
  • The Academy of Trial Advocacy, a group who selects those who are regarded by peers in the personal injury bar as among the most ethical and accomplished trial attorneys in their respective states (presently there are only five in Maine)
  • Litigation Counsel of America, a highly selective honorary society which selects attorneys based upon effectiveness and accomplishments in litigation

He has been named in Best Lawyers® in America for many years in the area of personal injury, insurance and products liability.  He also has been recognized by New England Super Lawyers in the areas of personal injury, product liability and medical malpractice, and holds an AV® Preeminent Peer Review Rating in the distinguished legal directory, Martindale-Hubbell®.*

Steve is also board-certified as a civil trial specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.  Board certification requires passing a vigorous written examination and demonstrated experience in the courtroom.

Among his interests is teaching trial skills to other attorneys.  He has been invited to teach trial advocacy at national trial colleges by the National Institute of Trial Advocacy of Boulder, Colorado for a number of years.  He has also lectured and written numerous times at state level lawyer seminars and in lawyer publications in such areas as product liability, professional liability, insurance coverage and litigation.

Steve is admitted to practice in all Maine courts, as well as the Maine U.S. District Court and the First Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals.

Born in Rumford, Maine, Steve received his B.S. in engineering, cum laude, from the University of New Hampshire and his law degree, cum laude, from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.  His engineering education and engineering work before law school gives him a unique advantage among lawyers especially when physics, science, and engineering are involved.

Steve’s interests outside of work include outdoor activities.  He is a dedicated backpacker, an interest that dates back to his days as an Eagle Scout. Steve often goes into the wild with his twin daughters, who recently graduated from college, and his son, a graduate student in engineering. Some of his trips have covered up to 90 miles in federal wilderness areas in the western United States.
